If you have an interest in solving crimes, building cases, and taking criminals off the streets, a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a Forensic Investigation concentration from CTU could be right for you. In this degree program, you can work to develop a solid foundation in law enforcement, the courts, and corrections as well as foundational forensic investigative knowledge. Combining theory and practice, you’ll go into the lab for real-world experience in investigating crimes and criminal profiling.
Employment of forensic science technicians is projected to grow 14 percent from 2023 - 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations.1 The BSCJ-FI degree can help you prepare to enter that field.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) with a concentration in Forensic Investigation (FI) is a 182-credit-hour program that is offered at the Colorado Springs campus. The program consists of 66 credit hours of general education requirements; 56 credit hours devoted to the criminal justice core; and 60 credit hours for the forensic investigation concentration.
The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Investigation degree program is designed for criminal justice professionals seeking to begin or advance a career in the law enforcement, corrections, or judicial fields. The BSCJ-FI also helps the student develop a foundational forensic investigative knowledge and skill base. Combining the best of theory and practice, the BSCJ with a concentration in Forensic Investigation is designed to provide the student with opportunities through lab and practicum experiences in the investigation of crimes and criminal profiling.
This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification. As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

BSCJ-FI Concentration Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate ability to collect and preserve evidence, document rules of evidence, write accurate reports, and provide courtroom testimony
- Conduct crime scene analyses with crime scene photography and reconstruction methods
- Analyze crime scenes involving death, sex crimes, and traffic accident investigations using forensic methods
- Conduct forensic analyses such as fingerprint detection and shoe/tire print casting
- Demonstrate a foundational forensic investigative knowledge and skill base.

CTU’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) with a concentration in Forensic Investigation Degree Program is designed to provide knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant for pursuing potential opportunities in the workforce. This bachelor’s degree program emphasizes the development of a solid foundation in law enforcement, the courts, and corrections, as well as foundational forensic investigative knowledge. Combining the best of theory and practice, students may have the opportunity to go into the lab for real-world experience in investigating crimes and criminal profiling.
As you work to complete your BSCJ with a concentration in Forensic Investigation, you will be immersed in courses where you may study these topics and much more: investigative techniques specific to fraud investigations; preventing loss and protecting assets in the private sector; and principles and issues in business and organizational security management.
Courses for this BSCJ program start on our Colorado Springs campus approximately every five weeks. Completion of the CTU admissions process will depend on how quickly you complete the steps in the CTU online application process. You may complete the application process over the phone with an advisor or you may go online. Once you’ve completed the online application, you may hear from an advisor within the following 24 hours to discuss the next steps toward starting your degree program.
The BSCJ degree program consists of 182 credits. You may be eligible for transfer credit, which is evaluated on an individual basis. Not all credits are eligible to transfer. You can also complete CTU Fast Track™ exams to receive college credit for what you already know—allowing you to complete your degree program up to 30% faster.1
1 The ability to reduce time in school and/or reduce tuition towards the full cost of a degree program depends on the number of CTU Fast Track™ exams successfully passed. Fast Track program credits are non-transferable. Not all programs are eligible for possible 30% reduction in time and money. Courses eligible are subject to change.
